SCI celebrates Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav
MUMBAI : The Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) coincides with the Diamond Jubilee Year celebrations of The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI). As part of the AKAM celebrations, various competitions have been
conducted for shore employees, seafarers and the students of SCI’s indigenous teaching Institution, the
Maritime Training Institute.
The Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour with the SCI Management visiting three vessels
on the eve of Independence Day, engaging with the seafarers sensitizing and acknowledging their
contribution to the seamless trade flow and economy and boosting their morale. The flag hoisting
function on the 15th August 2021 streamed online enabling ship-to-shore communication, commenced
with a Guard of Honour followed by hoisting of the flag by CMD, SCI. A patriotic Speech was delivered
by CMD recalling the glory of SCI, unhindered service rendered to the nation in spite of the pandemic
challenge leading to exemplary financial performance, its awe-inspiring recent Search & Rescue
initiatives for the benefit of mankind and the first-time ever ‘all women merchant officers sailing’ aboard
a cargo vessel, m.t. Swarna Krishna – a watershed phenomenon achieved by SCI in the global maritime
history realizing a paradigm shift in the maritime. Employees were urged to continue to strive towards
organizational excellence and promote the country’s growth.
A ‘Technical Bulletin covering technical aspects of shipping domain and industry, significant from a
compliance perspective, was launched and Covid warriors were felicitated for exceptional capabilities
and passion to ensure seamless performance of the organization despite the pandemic restraints. As
part of initiatives and activities towards a vision of a resurgent Atmanirbhar Bharat as also to strengthen
its social media outreach, SCI launched its official social media handle (@ShippingCorpIndia)
on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
SCI has also contributed towards service to humanity through three COVID Vaccination camps at the
Head Office premises. The drive aims to maximise the COVID–19 vaccination penetration and is in line
with the Government of India’s Liberalised and Accelerated Phase 3 Strategy of COVID–19 Vaccination.
The camps have benefited general public including metro workers, slum dwellers, Seafarers & Cadets.
