MUMBAI : Vadhvan Port Project Limited (VPPL)– the 13th Major Port of India has announced the commencement of road infrastructure development on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, during the VPPL Board Meeting, reflecting the company’s continued commitment to inclusive development. This decision is aimed at benefiting both the Vadhvan Port construction and the surrounding local communities.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is in the process of land acquisition for the 8-lane NH-248S highway, originating from the upcoming Vadhvan Port at Varor, and seamlessly connecting to NH-8 and the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway at Tawa and Chinchari, respectively. This strategic connectivity will serve as a major corridor, not just for freight, but also for regional development and accessibility.

In addition to this, VPPL is constructing a dedicated two-lane service road to facilitate the port’s construction activities, which will also be accessible to the local public, thereby easing current transportation in the region. In response to the requests and suggestions from the community, essential facilities such as underpasses, cross passages, flyovers, Road Over Bridges (ROBs), and service roads will be incorporated into the road plan, which will be toll-free for the local population.

“Our aim is not only to build a world-class port but also to ensure that its growth positively impacts the communities around it,” said Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairperson, JNPA and CMD, VPPL. “These road projects reflect our appreciation for the people of Vadhvan and neighbouring areas. The improved connectivity will support local enterprises, strengthen access to education and healthcare, and open up better livelihood opportunities. This toll-free, all-weather greenfield two-lane road will also help farmers, die-makers, and the fishing community by easing movement and expanding access to markets,” he added.

From a broader perspective, these service road links are expected to act as a catalyst for local commerce and socio-economic upliftment. Improved access to national highways and expressways will facilitate the smoother movement of goods, open new markets for local businesses, and attract ancillary industries and services, thereby creating a positive ripple effect throughout the region.

VPPL remains steadfast in its vision to build infrastructure that not only meets global standards but also strengthens its roots in local aspirations.
