DPA Kandla receives ‘First Rajbhasha Shield Award for Excellence’ in official language implementation

NEW DELHI : Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has been conferred the First Rajbhasha Shield Award in the ‘Kha’ Category in recognition of its outstanding contribution towards the promotion and effective implementation of Rajbhasha Hindi in official administration.

The prestigious award was presented to Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority, by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal during the first meeting of the reconstituted Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways held in New Delhi.

The recognition acknowledges Deendayal Port Authority’s sustained efforts in promoting the progressive use of Hindi in official correspondence, administrative processes, digital communication, training programmes, publications, and day-to-day governance. The Authority has consistently implemented the provisions of the Official Language Policy, encouraging wider adoption of Hindi across its departments while maintaining efficiency and transparency in public administration.

Receiving the First Rajbhasha Shield is a significant milestone for the Port Authority and reflects its institutional commitment to strengthening the use of Hindi in government functioning. The award also highlights DPA’s proactive initiatives in organising Rajbhasha workshops, awareness programmes, Hindi competitions, and capacity-building activities for employees to foster greater linguistic inclusivity and compliance with the Official Languages Act and related government directives.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal commended the efforts of organisations that have demonstrated excellence in promoting Rajbhasha Hindi, emphasising that the wider use of Indian languages in governance enhances administrative efficiency, public engagement, and national integration.

This honour further reinforces Deendayal Port Authority’s position as one of India’s leading major ports, not only in cargo handling and operational excellence but also in adopting best practices in governance, institutional development, and implementation of the Government of India’s Official Language Policy.
