TOKYO : MOL pleased to celebrate the naming ceremony of the sixth newbuild LNG carrier, out of seven ordered for QatarEnergy in 2022 as part of QatarEnergy’s historic LNG fleet expansion program. The ceremony was held at the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. shipyard in China.
In the presence of invited guests, the vessel was named “AL FANAR,” meaning “Lantern” and symbolizing light, guidance, and hope. Throughout history, the steady glow of a lantern has helped travelers find their way through darkness, guided sailors safely home, and served as a beacon of reassurance in uncertain times. The ceremonial rope was then cut, marking the successful completion of the naming ceremony.
With six additional LNG carriers already contracted under long-term time charter agreements with QatarEnergy, the total number of MOL LNG carriers introduced under this historic shipbuilding program will reach 13.
MOL will leverage its experience and expertise as one of the world’s largest shipping companies to develop various social infrastructure businesses, technologies, and services, centering on ocean transport, to meet the needs of a wide range of customers throughout the group.
