CHENNAI: Chennai Port has achieved a significant milestone in container operations, with Chennai Container Terminal Private Limited (CCTPL), operated by DP World, recording its highest monthly container throughput in the last decade by handling 93,804 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) across 36 vessels in October 2026.
The latest achievement surpasses the terminal’s previous monthly record of 89,743 TEUs, registered in September 2026, marking another consecutive month of record-breaking performance. The improved throughput reflects the terminal’s growing operational capabilities, enhanced cargo-handling efficiency and the increasing strength of Chennai Port’s maritime and logistics ecosystem.
The record performance underscores the coordinated efforts of DP World, Chennai Port Authority, shipping lines, logistics operators and other port stakeholders in ensuring efficient vessel operations and seamless cargo movement. It also demonstrates the terminal’s ability to accommodate growing container volumes while supporting the evolving requirements of India’s export-import trade.
Strengthening Chennai Port’s Role in Global Trade
The milestone highlights Chennai Port Authority’s continued focus on trade facilitation, improved connectivity and business development through a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing port infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Strategic efforts to strengthen hinterland connectivity, improve logistics services and attract additional cargo have contributed to reinforcing Chennai Port’s position as an important gateway for containerised trade in southern India.
As international trade volumes and supply-chain requirements continue to evolve, efficient container terminals and integrated logistics infrastructure remain essential to improving cargo evacuation, reducing turnaround times and enhancing the competitiveness of India’s maritime sector.
DP World and Chennai Port Drive Maritime Growth
DP World’s role in operating CCTPL reflects the importance of public-private partnerships in developing modern port infrastructure and delivering efficient, technology-driven terminal services.
The record throughput of October 2026 represents more than an operational achievement; it demonstrates the growing capacity of Chennai Port’s container-handling ecosystem to support trade expansion, strengthen supply-chain connectivity and serve the needs of exporters, importers and shipping lines.
With successive monthly records and a continued emphasis on operational excellence, Chennai Port and DP World are further strengthening their contribution to India’s maritime growth ambitions and global trade connectivity.
