JNPA celebrates the spirit of Independence with ‘Har GharTiranga’ activities

MUMBAI : Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) – India’s largest container port, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and pride at the JNPA premises. Shri Gaurav Dayal, IAS, Chairperson, JNPA, was the Chief Guest at the celebration, which was held in the presence of Shri Ravish Kumar Singh, IRTS, Deputy Chairperson, JNPA, the CISF Commandant, Board Members, Heads of Departments, employees and CISF officials.

The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Shri Gaurav Dayal, IAS, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem and Vande Mataram, evoking a strong sense of national pride and unity among the gathering. Addressing the gathering, Shri Gaurav Dayal, IAS, Chairperson, JNPA, said, “Independence Day is an occasion to reflect on the values of freedom, responsibility and nationbuilding. As an organisation entrusted with a vital role in India’s maritime and economic growth, JNPA remains dedicated to performing its responsibilities with integrity, efficiency and a spirit of service to the nation. The celebration of our national symbols reminds us that every contribution, however small, has a role in building a stronger and more self-reliant India.”

The Independence Day celebrations at JNPA extended beyond the ceremonial programme, with a series of activities organised throughout the week to celebrate the spirit of independence under the Prime Minister’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative. The programmes brought together JNPA employees, school children and the wider port community through activities centred on patriotism and national pride. These included a quiz and patriotic poem recitation competition for JNPA employees, Vande Mataram recitation with the Har Ghar Tiranga theme, a rally by JNPA school children, rendition of the National Anthem and patriotic songs, and an elocution competition.

Through these initiatives, JNPA celebrated Independence Day as an occasion not only to honour the nation’s freedom struggle but also to reinforce the values of unity, responsibility and active participation in nation-building.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is one of the premier containerhandling ports in India. Since its inception on May 26, 1989, JNPA has transformed from a bulk cargo terminal into the premier container port in the country.

Currently, JNPA operates five container terminals – NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT and APMT. The Port also has a shallow water berth for general cargo operated by Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (NSDT). A Liquid Cargo Terminal present at the JNPA Port is managed by the BPCL-IOCL consortium and the additional liquid cargo terminal developed by JNPA is operated by M/s JSW – JNPT Liquid Terminal Pvt. Ltd. Additionally, the newly constructed coastal berth links other Indian ports and facilitates enhancing the traffic of coastal containers.

Nestled across 277 hectares of land, JNPA also operates a meticulously designed multi-product SEZ, with state-of-the-art infrastructure, to boost export-oriented industries in India. JNPA is also developing an all-weather, deep-draft, greenfield port at Vadhvan,the 13th Major Port of India in Maharashtra. It is poised to be among the top 10 ports globally and will be a 100% green port since its inception.
