S. Jaishankar highlights supply chain resilience, diversification and de-politicisation of markets at G20 Summit in Atlanta

ATLANTA : External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar highlighted the growing importance of resilient, diversified and secure global supply chains during Plenary III on Supply Chains at the G20 Summit in Atlanta, which concluded with discussions on strengthening international economic cooperation and addressing emerging global challenges.

Addressing the plenary, Dr. Jaishankar emphasised that securing supply chains and ensuring their resilience have become central to the stability and well-being of the global economy. He underlined the need for countries to work collectively towards building robust supply networks capable of withstanding disruptions arising from pandemics, geopolitical conflicts, climate-related events and unforeseen operational challenges.

Highlighting the importance of equitable economic growth, the External Affairs Minister stressed that the right of nations to industrialise must be promoted, while predatory practices and attempts to undermine fair competition should be firmly resisted.

He also underscored the significance of diversification and de-risking, particularly in connectivity and production networks, as essential pillars of supply chain resilience. According to him, reducing excessive concentration in the global economy and optimising production across different geographical regions can help prevent the weaponisation of finance, natural resources, production capabilities and market share.

Dr. Jaishankar further called upon the G20 to work towards the de-politicisation of markets, emphasising that global trade and economic partnerships should operate on principles of transparency, fairness and mutual benefit.

He noted that G20 member countries must reconcile their respective national interests with the broader collective good by encouraging transparent, diversified and multiple supply chains. Such an approach would contribute to a more balanced, inclusive and genuinely multi-stakeholder global economy.

The Minister’s remarks reinforced India’s position on strengthening global economic resilience through diversification, fair competition, reliable connectivity and international cooperation, while ensuring that supply chains remain open, dependable and responsive to the needs of all participating nations.

India’s engagement at the G20 reflects its continued commitment to promoting a resilient, inclusive and balanced global economic framework that supports sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
